Loulé is the one of the biggest county in Algarve, englobes 2 cities, Loulé and Quarteira, and 9 more parishes. The total area of Loulé it’s about 763,67 kilometers. The name Loulé is pronounced “low-lay”. All the year it hosts many events and is filled of typical traditions. On the coast of Loulé, is the Golden Triangle, that includes Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo and Almancil.

In reality, there are not many foreign people living in the city of Loulé, they prefer living in the coastal places, like the Golden Triangle or in Quarteira, just 12 kilometers faraway. Only 20 kilometers separate the Faro Airport from Loulé.

The city is full of historic monuments and lounge attractions. The Loulé market hall (Mercado Municipal) is one of the most important symbols of Loulé and it’s a good example of the Moorish architecture. The catholic traditions are very common and, for that reason, you can find several churches in Loulé.

Transportation Facilities in Loulé

The traffic in Loulé is usually calm, especially during the low season. You can easily ride your car and find free parking places, but beware at the high season. In 2013 the city council of Loulé made a big investment in a network of cycle paths.

Loulé has a public transportation network, named “Apanha-me”. This is an easy way to go around the city very cheaply. Currently, the yellow and the blue line of buses it’s very useful for who doesn’t have a car, also it’s a very a comfortable and rapidly transportation. The cost of the ticket is 0,80€ and 10 trips + the card is 6,35€. Also, in the center of the city you can find the EVA bus terminal.

Living in Loulé

The tradition of Loulé Carnival is very old and it’s very popular in Portugal. Usually in February the Avenida José Costa Mealha receives that big Carnival Parade and attracts thousands of people.

In summer you can find one special nigh event, the famous White Night of Loulé. All the city center takes on a white glow at night. All the participants should dress in white and enjoy the entertainment from bands, jugglers, and street theatre groups. All the city dresses white in that night.

The Festival MED is one of the biggest festivals in Algarve and it’s included in the rotary of “World Music” in Europe. This international festival of music takes place in the historical center of Loulé in late June. This event attracts many tourists.

The catholic festival of Sovereign Mother is one of the most important events in Algarve. In the Sunday of Easter the image of the Sovereign Mother is taken from her sanctuary to the church of São Francisco. This festival draws thousands for the parade, musical animation and, in the end, then the typical firework displays.

Best place to live in Loulé

The city of Loulé isn’t a touristic zone, for that reason, the prices of the proprieties are not too expensive. It’s possible to find special real estate opportunities, especially in the city center. But it’s easier to find an apartment than a villa in the center, the best zone for a villa is out of the main city.

The famous Golden Triangle is the littoral part of Loulé, the prices of properties there are very costly, but you can find a really luxurious life. Who doesn’t like to live next to the beach and the golf fields.

If you prefer to live with a mountain view, try villages with rural and rustic retreats. There the prices are not so expensive and it’s an area that you can live in harmony with nature.
